Private modern art collection in eye-catching building

Opened in May 2009 in the city's museum-rich Kunstareal, this art hot spot showcases the collection of Udo and Anette Brandhorst. Housed in a striking building by Berlin-based Sauerbruch Hutton architects, marked by its yummy mass of multi-coloured ceramic tiles, the Brandhorsts' stash includes dozens and dozens of Warhols and Cy Twomblys (overkill?), plus works by Sigmar Polke, Bruce Nauman, Joseph Beuys, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Eric Fischl, Georg Baselitz and others. In short, more than 1,200 works of art from the 1960s to the present. It's a whale of an interior, with perhaps a hint of the overblown about it.
