Garry Klein (at Rote Sonne)

Munich really can't compete with Berlin ifor nightlife, but this semi-regular Wednesday event goes some way in redressing the balance. The Garry Klein nights were started in October 2010 at Harry Klein, a purpose-built club (started in 2003) named after famous TV inspector character Harry Klein (played by Fritz Wepper), who figured in not one but two German crime series: DER KOMMISSAR (1969–74) and DERRICK (1973–97). The 'character' Garry Klein was invented solely for the purposes of this mid-week queer club night, which includes a short performance by a non-drag modern stage act around midnight. Music is house (not progressive house), electro and techno from the late 1990s onwards, provided by resident DJs and occasional international guests. In 2023 Garry Klein shifted to Rote Sonne, a very central and rather hip, straight DJ-heavy club loctated halfway between U-Bahn stations Karlsplatz (Stachus) and Odeonsplatz.
