Gay Wednesdays at famous club
Munich really can't compete with Berlin ifor nightlife, but this semi-regular Wednesday event goes some way in redressing the balance. Very centrally located, the purpose-built club (started in 2003) is named after famous TV inspector character Harry Klein (played by Fritz Wepper), who figured in not one but two German crime series: DER KOMMISSAR (1969–74) and DERRICK (1973–97). The 'character' Garry Klein was invented solely for the purposes of this mid-week gay/lesbian/etc club night. Drag star Bob Abachtzehnuhr hosts the evening, which includes a short performance by a non-drag modern stage act around midnight. Music is house (not progressive house), electro and techno from the late 1990s onwards, provided by resident DJs and occasional international guests. A second floor includes the bar Separee. Garry Klein nights started in October 2010, four months after Harry Klein's move from the Optimolwerke at Ostbahnhof to the Sonnenstraße. Check website for dates. U-Bahns: Karlsplatz (Stachus), Hauptbahnhof and Sendlinger Tor.
