Ochsengarten

Opened in 1967 by a woman, the daddy (or granddaddy) of all Munich fetish bars is now far less likely than it once was to fill a room with men who recall the leather scene's so-called heyday of the 1970s, 80s and early 90s. While leather and rubber remain on the menu, there's less of it in the flesh than on the walls, which are adorned with leather-beautiful posters of bars from all over the world, many of them sadly no longer with us. Think more jeans-and-t-shirt, pups and scallies, with a few touches of camp. Ochsengarten is an unexpectedly small and cavern-like saloon space, and a rustic awning above the bar hints that this is meant to be some kind of garden, though where oxes (ochsen) come into it remains a mystery. There's a small second room at the back and also a dark, pocket-sized sling area for a private moment. This bar is craving to be great once more. Then again, most leather bars around the world are wondering where all the men have gone to. In 2014 this fetish establishment stretched its brief to embrace the naked/underwear look on certain nights; lycra and neoprene followed. U-Bahn: Sendlinger Tor.
